Use of representative

The department from the government of Canada responsible for processing immigration or visas related applications is the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), previously known as the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). Every year IRCC accepts about

250,000 – 350,000

people to be Canadian permanent residents.

IRCC will work with authorized representatives, either compensated or uncompensated, on immigration matters.

When you apply to come to Canada, do you need a representative to help you to apply?

The short answer is:

NO, you do not need a representative. This is evident from the IRCC or CIC official websites. The government of Canada treats every application equally, regardless you use a representative or not.

However, the long answer, if you are not familiar with the process and you need assistance in understanding and preparing the applications, consider using an authorized representative. There are two types of authorized representatives on Canadian immigration and citizenship matters; paid and unpaid representatives or compensated or uncompensated representatives.

The paid representatives are the:

  • lawyers and paralegals in good standing of a Canadian law society or the Chambre des notaires du Québec and
  • members in good standing of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council.

Although we could assign either category of authorized representatives, many of our successful candidates had used the professional lawyers.
